The name derives simply from its geographical position, it sits on part of the ancient 'Dulwich Woode.'
The Pub itself, originally built as a private dwelling in the mid 19th century, began its role as a pub in the 1880's; its architect 'Sir Joseph Paxton' who's most famous work was the 'Crystal Palace.'
One of our most famous tenants after the second World War was a certain 'Rex Palmer' one of the original founding members of the BBC, fondly remembered by many as 'Uncle Rex' of the BBC's children's hour. One of our most famous neighbours was 'John Logie Baird' inventor of the world’s first working television and who patented the forerunner of the original radar system.
